First and foremost, Pie Girl was born from the desire to create a space where a new, younger generation of bakers could be free to express themselves. We are witnessing the overtaking of our social platforms with ‘tradwives’ and messaging urging women to “return to the kitchen.’’ As a baking brand, we love seeing so many young women encouraging others to put their aprons on. But we also think it’s important to distinguish the unfair and problematic beliefs that follow these influencers - namely, that if you’re a woman choosing to be in the kitchen, then your voice, value, and identity will be limited to that space. And that the purpose of being in that domain is to serve others, regardless of how that serves you. 

It’s important to call this out: women can choose this lifestyle, and make a living from it, thanks to feminist movements and innumerable people before us who fought for that right to choose, to be multifaceted, to start businesses, to share different perspectives, and to bake a damn pie if we want to! Domestic work has historically been devalued and feminized, but we believe in reclaiming it on our own terms. Our Pie Girls, of all genders, are free to exist in multitudes, taking up space within and outside of the kitchen, and embracing every aspect of who they are. You, Pie Girl, can be exactly who you choose, all at once. 

With that in mind, Pie Girl carves a niche for the bakers that are interested in a fresh approach. We no longer need to be tied to a singular image of the soft and wholesome baker. Pie Girl is a stripper-owned brand and so naturally, Pie Girls are not afraid to be sexy, bold, creative, and celebrated for bringing the whole baker to the table!

Why should I buy Pie girl’s thrifted bakeware and handmade accessories instead of buying new?

Pie Girl is more than a bakeware brand, it is a critical call to action to be a better consumer. When dreaming up Pie Girl, Rebecca was hesitant to create a new business that fuelled consumerism, adding more products to crowded markets for the sake of profit. That’s why we do business differently. All Pie Girl products are sourced with intention and sustainability in mind. Our artists do the work of sifting through endless thrift shop aisles to find the quality pieces that stand the test of time. We do the work of lifting up talented women with a new platform for their artistry. Pie Girl does the work of curating a collection that feels effortlessly hot, chic, and better for the planet. Instead of creating ‘more’ unnecessarily, we are reimagining, recycling, and rerouting goods to new homes and hands.

Our handmade accessories are created by talented women offering their time and skills to make intentional pieces. Mallary crochets each heart hot pad, a craft that cannot be replicated by machines. And Jackie sews each pie carrier with care, using reclaimed fabric that would otherwise become waste. When you are buying Pie Girl, you’re putting your dollars behind the time it took to thrift, clean, design, make, and showcase each piece. You are supporting local artists and diverting an item’s destiny away from the landfill. The goal is to reduce waste, while promoting products that have lots of life in them yet, and new ones made with love. And when you think about all of that, a handmade or thrifted piece becomes so much more valuable than the mass-produced items that line commercial shelves. Pie Girl proves that the local circular economy can be sexy!

What makes your aprons special?

Every one of our aprons is designed and crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail. Our apron seamstress, Sarah, handles every step of the process and takes the time to ensure that each apron is a 10. She thrifts and sources each piece of fabric secondhand. Using discarded clothing items, reworked or repaired scraps and unwanted swaths of material, Sarah has stitched together an eco-conscious baker’s dream. Everything from the fabric, thread, lace trim, metal hardware, and even the needles used on her sewing machine, have been purchased secondhand and saved from becoming textile waste! All materials that have gone into making these aprons have been diverted from landfills to instead find their home on your body. 

She washes and irons all of the fabric to ensure it is pre shrunk, stable, clean, and safe to use in food spaces. She even designs each apron herself, rather than working from a mass produced pattern. Sarah meticulously sews every apron, every trim, and every adorable detail. In short, she’s a sewing star! While it typically takes more time and creative problem solving to work with these irregular cuts and amounts of fabric rather than popping into the fabric store, it means producing less waste and giving renewed life to otherwise unused items; something Pie Girl feels very strongly about.  

Pie Girl aprons are special because they are handmade and no two aprons are alike. The prices reflect the time and labour of this highly detail-oriented process. Slight variations between the aprons, from fit to function, are intentional. When you buy a Pie Girl apron, you can be sure that your one of a kind and sustainable apron will never be seen on anyone but you! These aprons won’t cost the planet, and that is something we are so proud of.

Do you have a refund policy?

Due to the unique, thrifted, and handmade nature of our items, we do not accept refunds or returns. Each piece is one of a kind, and slight variations or wear are part of the charm. However, if you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason, please reach out to hello@piegirl.ca and we will do everything we can to rectify the problem and ensure you have the best experience possible. If you have any sizing concerns or questions, please contact us before purchasing, and we’ll gladly provide any details or measurements to help you feel confident in your choice.

what are your shipping/delivery options?

SHIPPING

Bakeware: Due to logistical barriers (pie plates are heavy and fragile!), we cannot offer shipping for our bakeware items at this time.

Aprons and baking accessories: Canada Post Regular Parcel shipping. Deliveries will be prepared and shipped within 3-5 business days from time of order. Find the specific delivery standard from your postal code to a Canadian destination at canadapost.ca/deliverytool. We apologize but at this time we do not accept international orders. 

PICKUP

Pie Girl offers local pickup and delivery options for all items, including bakeware. 

Please choose the Edmonton, AB Local Pickup option at the checkout if you would like to pickup your order. Edmonton pickup is offered most weekdays and some weekends in the central Whyte Ave area of the city. Please email hello@piegirl.ca to confirm your local pickup time for Edmonton, AB. Note, this option ensures the fastest timeline for receiving your item.

Please choose the Calgary, AB Local Pickup option at the checkout if you would like to pickup your order in Calgary. Pie Girl often travels to Calgary and would be happy to bring your purchases for pickup. Please note, this option is only for Pie Girls who are not in a rush. Calgary is offered on inconsistent timelines (about once every two months). We cannot offer guaranteed local delivery there at all times, so email hello@piegirl.ca before your purchase to confirm availability when choosing this option. 

DELIVERY

Pie Girl also offers a bi-monthly delivery option to the Edmonton area. Twice monthly, Pie Girl will deliver in and around Edmonton, AB. Note, since this is only offered bi-monthly, this option is not appropriate for Pie Girls that are in a rush to receive their order. Please email hello@piegirl.ca to confirm a delivery time when choosing this option.
